This post is only for the A303 Stonehenge geeks among us.....

A GEEK.....in the Oxford dictionary is......a person who is knowledgeable about, and obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest....that would be me then 😄

The following three links show in good detail, and in layman's terms, how the project to fix the A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down section will be Constructed, Tunnel detail, and Winterbourne Stoke By-Pass.  That is provided the Development Consent Order (DCO) has a positive outcome.   The present Secretary of State for Transport the Rt Hon. Mark Harper MP is expected to make his decision soon.

Since the previous Judial Review from our friends at https://stonehengealliance.org.uk/ (SHA) in 2021, https://staga303.blogspot.com/2021/07/legal-challenge-against-project-upheld.html the re-determination process has continued, covering a range of issues including alternative routes, carbon assessment and environment updated evaluation.  If the scheme is approved, there could of course, be a further legal challenge from SHA, however, we understand they cannot re visit those areas previously challenged.   I see on their web page one can contribute money to their cause in one of two ways depending on whether you live in the UK or anywhere else in the world!!!!

If there is NO challenge, preliminary works could start in Autumn 2023 with re-profiling Rollestone Cross Roads junction from Larkhill, being one of the first, which should encourage drivers away from Shrewton High Street....and this alone just might encourage https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/ to make a start on resurfacing that same High Street, a job that's been on the cards since 2011 and continually delayed every year since....it's a nightmare walking and driving there now, not to mention the damage to my face - (permanent) when I tripped on the bad surface of the pedestrian walk way!!!

And so to the fact sheets......

Fact Sheet 1 covers - Winterbourne Stoke bypass - River Till viaduct, Landscaping and noise levels.

Fact Sheet 2 covers - What to do with the Excavated Tunnel material, Chalk Grassland and why not MOD land - explained.

Fact sheet 3 covers - Construction - managing the impact, haul routes, working hours and number of on site workers.

So if the Secretary of State for Transport agrees the DCO hopefully, the re-profiling of Rollestone Cross Roads will deter RAT RUNNERS for the next 5 years during construction from using our High Street and subsequently local residents will be less likely to have respiratory problems in the future 😨😤      Sadly however, we have received confirmation that should there be a further challenge, the adjustment to Rollestone Cross Roads - as part of the DCO cannot go ahead independently 😡
