The tender for specialist security services is for an initial five years but could be extended for a further three years at National Highways’ discretion. It is expecting the full eight-year contract to be worth between £5M and £10M, with the value dependent upon service requirement.
The roads operator requires the contractor to carry out incident management and response to protesters safely and effectively to minimize any impact on National Highways’ programme and reputation. The deadline for applications is 23 January 2023.
It comes after a new report from the National Audit Office revealed that the expected cost of the scheme has been revised up from £1.7bn to £2.4bn. see here from the National Audit Office (NAO) This increase, as the link tells us, is affected by factors such as the war in Ukrane and the current economic situation following Covid 19: I notice the NAO continue to refer to National Highways as Highways England - a title that was changed in August 2021 https://www.nao.org.uk/reports/south-west-road-improvements-and-the-stonehenge-tunnel/
https://www.nao.org.uk/press-releases/progress-with-the-second-road-investment-strategy/ So! if you been paying attention, you'll remember I posted the last update from National Audit Office (NAO) on 21st May 2019 see here: https://staga303.blogspot.com/2019/05/national-audit-office-update.html so keep up! 😂
