A303 Stonehenge Project update....

OK! so DFT - Department for Transport have asked National Highways - formally known as Highways England.....(didn't see that change coming!) to look at the Project again to see if there are any amendments that could be made and this is from our contact at NH:

"Hello,

We wanted to let you know about an important development today on the A303 Stonehenge scheme.

"We’re pleased the Secretary of State for Transport has just published what’s known as the Statement of Matters, which is a critical step forward in helping him look again at the A303 Stonehenge scheme consent. As you will know the Development Consent Order was quashed earlier this year following the Judicial Review.
This now gives National Highways a much clearer picture of the way forward. We’ll be working hard to provide the information the Secretary of State has requested, including the information about carbon and climate change. We remain confident the scheme offers the best solution it can to solving the traffic problems along this notoriously congested section of the A303, and remove the sight and the sound of the traffic from the Stonehenge landscape and the World Heritage Site.
You can find the detail of the Statement on the
Planning Inspectorate’s website:

https://infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/wp-content/ipc/uploads/projects/TR010025/TR010025-002191-TR010025_A303%20Amesbury%20to%20Berwick%20Down_DfT%20Statement%20of%20Matters.pdf

You may notice that there is no mention of when the Secretary of State may announce a new decision, this is because there is no statutory timescale for this process, and we can not say when this might be at the moment.   We’d like to thank everyone who has continued to support the scheme for their ongoing commitment as we all work together through this next stage.  If you have any questions about the next steps, please do get in touch: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-work/a303-stonehenge/"

However, as you see from this link: https://stonehengealliance.org.uk/ this lot are not going to sit back and allow any decision by Grant Shapps MP to go through without a fight around the world:

"ACT NOW! Following the High Court’s judgment to quash the A303 Stonehenge road scheme the Transport Secretary must re-determine the scheme.  We need to urge Government to scrap the scheme for the sake of heritage, the environment and the next generation.  Write to your MP or your local ambassador if you are outside the UK.  We have composed a ready made email asking your MP to scrap the A303 Stonehenge road scheme.  WHAT TO SAY  "

This takes me nicely onto my next post......A303 Peace Camp.....
