Stonehenge visitor's centre...Uncle Simon's new tin shed!

Come and have a jolly good day out at Uncle Simon's wonderful new tin shed!
Uncle Simon is so pleased with his new tin shed....he's inviting lots of his friends to see it - that'll be you and me then! Now it's fully open, everybody can visit at the increased cost of.....wait for it......£14.90! That does include the car park I gather.
See the Noddy train, take a ride .....you'll be so excited because it's one and half miles on the bumpy Noddy Train before you'll see Stonehenge! Remember to take those travel sick pills tho'!
See the engine huff and puff!...
See the gear box fall out....oh dear!  I hear today that the bonnet of one of the land rovers was up again yesterday, and you may even get the chance to use your mechanical skills!!
Wouldn't it have been nice if English Heritage had stuck to their plan to save the environment and decided to use the beautiful Clydesdale horse instead - and all that lovely manure they're missing out on could be sold for even more money in the coffers!!
See Big Ears, Bumpy the dog, Auntie Tessie and the Tubby Bears! Everyone will have such a lovely time...we hope that nasty King Arthur, and Sly and Gobbo - the naughty goblins don't spoil the fun....so! when you visit, you must all be very very good and not get into mischief....otherwise P.C. Plod......will lock you all up in Shrewton's Blind House......well it nearly looks the same!!!

Please help us get the A303 dualled past Stonehenge...visit www.sh2.co.uk and sign our parliamentary petition.    Please remember to use the follow up e-mail to confirm you signed......Thank you

Longbarrow to Airman's Cross - clogged!

Well, just what we thought would happen and it's not even summer! the A360 from Longbarrow was queued all the way to Airman's Cross last Sunday with people taking advantage of the one and only nice day of the holiday, and trying to see Stonehenge. They probably all had to queue on the A303 to get to Longbarrow in the first place. The lack of a separate entry/exit to the visitor's centre (blame the planners) means we villagers are in that queue too. We can't get onto the A360 when the visitor's centre is busy and may well be locked in our villages especially during the summer months!!! Everyone's complaining to STAG: Stonehenge Traffic Action Group about the queues whether you be local or from far flung places, just trying to get to your destination......when will English Heritage and Wiltshire Council wake up and smell the exhaust fumes!!! Where on earth did they think 600 + vehicles an hour, previously using the A344 were going to go....just disappear?? Look at these photos, taken on Sunday 29th December by a local resident just wanting to make a trip from our village to Amesbury. Like most people in the queue, they made a u-turn - dangerous in itself yes, but had no choice but to re-route.....or give up!
They show standing traffic between the two roundabouts - Airman's Cross and Longbarrow....because the car park to Stonehenge was full, and this only mid morning ..Got news for you.....The Stones can no longer be seen without paying the money - £15.00!!!     No more quickies with the camera at the fence!!! Cecil Chubb will be revolving in his grave.....don't go too fast Mr Chubb - it's enough to make you sick!
I've had yet another e-mail reporting that the car park for the visitor's centre is not fit for purpose. No way will it support 500 vehicles and it's clogged on the first nice day of the festive season causing all the queues on the A360. I'm dreading the summer! A local resident returning from Salisbury has had to drop a U, back to Longbarrow and re- route via A303 to Winterbourne Stoke to get back to Shrewton!!  It occurred to me that during the summer, we may well be traffic locked in our village and perhaps a helicopter could be used to drop in luxuries like bread and milk!
English Heritage.....you need your heads examined for closing the A344 before dualling the A303!!!

The A303 needs to be dualled past Stonehenge...so please sign our Parliamentary petition here: www.sh2.co.uk and please remember to use the follow up e-mail to confirm having signed......thanks a lot!  This picture is courtesy of :www.westerndailypress.co.uk taken
from the top of Beacon Hill A303 on the last August Bank Holiday was 12 miles long!  Please now allow 1 hour 40 minutes to reach Stonehenge Visitor's Centre from this point.....some 6.9 miles.....coach companies, I'd give up if I were you!!

Home safe and well we hope....sorry for the queue on the A303

STAG hopes you all got home safely from your Xmas holiday, where ever you were and we hope you weren't stuck for too long on the A303. It's not been the best of weathers for the festive season especially if you were in the floods down in the West Country. As I write this, it's pouring with rain and blowing a gale again, and if you did have to queue on the A303 it's all down to the closure of that A344. You see we need to get the A303 dualled past Stonehenge and it should have been completed before the closure of A344....but apparently that road had to close to accommodate the "New Visitor's Centre" at Airman's Cross - one and a half miles from Stonehenge! I'm not sure where English Heritage thought 600 vehicles an hour that used the A344, were going to go - vanish into thin air? Of course, they've ended up on the beleaguered A303 which is why you have to queue along with us!!! There have been enough feasibility studies and now they're going to start another.....£46m spent so far!!! Unfortunately, because the A303 is still single carriageway past The Stones, this queue will still be here next time you head for the West Country because - it's permanent until we get it dualled! We "Yokels" are....Soooooo sorry for the queue, but you need to have words with : www.english-heritage.org.uk and or www.wiltshire.gov.uk for the long tail backs on the A303 since the road closed. Whilst we understand the need to get off the beleaguered A303 and out of queue, the act of doing so, has caused "rat run" traffic through our villages and towns, making them unsafe for local people, but who can blame you?     Please feel free to write to these two organisations and copy it to me, because, now we all have to stay in that queue...even us just trying to get home to our villages because the stupid planners, when designing the new visitor's centre, didn't consider putting in a separate entrance/exit ....and it's in the wrong place anyway!!! More information on decisions taken to close the A344 can be found on http://bypasswinterbournestoke.blogspot.co.uk So! here you all are queueing and queueing and queueing.....

Please sign our parliamentary petition at: www.sh2.co.uk to dual the A303 past Stonehenge and remember to use the follow up e-mail to confirm....thanks!

A303 - not fit for purpose!

We at STAG: Stonehenge Traffic Action Group
keep banging on about why the A303....as a main arterial route to the West Country, not only for tourism, but also for businesses...needs to be dualled.  It's just not fit for purpose when we look at these photos of 2 earth movers which had to be transported on the A303 through Winterbourne Stoke!
And our photographer managed to get in our sh2 placard too!!
Visit www.sh2.co.uk and sign our petition please and remember to confirm using the follow up e-mail....thanks
