The baby's thrown it's toys out the pram.....

So! Stonehenge Alliance's attempts to get their Resolution/Motion carried at the https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/annual-general-meeting on 5th November got "blown up for
what, on the face of it, seemed to be a motion criticizing National Trust Board's support for https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/a303-stonehenge/ on their A303 Stonehenge Scheme.   On further investigation, seems to have been an attempt to discredit the NT Board and overturn their officer's appointment.   this is extreme Right Wing tactics!!!
For the record:
NT membership 5.7m entitled to vote
Those who actually chose to vote: 127,825
Those who voted FOR the motion:  30,670
Those who voted against the motion: 81,746
Those who chose to abstain:  £15,409

So here's what they say having lost the motion:

STONEHENGE ALLIANCE CAMPAIGN UPDATE

This is what https://stonehengealliance.org.uk/  say in an e-mail to their supporters - and apparently I am one 😉 on losing yet another of their Resolutions the last one having been in 2017...

"Above: Double sided A4 handout distributed to participants at the National Trust AGM.  This was not available to those following proceedings on-line.  We were not allowed to show an explanatory slide to help explain the complexity of the scheme."

"Dear Supporter,
Neither our resolution nor any members’ resolution presented to the National Trust AGM last Saturday was successful.
Despite our best efforts to inform, engage and spread the word, the voting results for our resolution took us aback:

For 30,670   |   Against 81,746   |   Abstain 15,409

We are naturally disappointed in the result but unsurprised. Nevertheless, we were heartened that more than 30,000 National Trust members supported our resolution, which should encourage the Trustees to think long and hard about their stance at Stonehenge.
There was evident support for our cause in the room and on line. So, THANK YOU to everyone who voted, shared posts, retweeted, spread the word or wrote to the National Trust.  Who knows? The Trust might pause for thought after all".

This is what SHA say about the voting process and where it could be said...they "throw their toys out the pram"

"The problem with current arrangements is that the majority of members have to vote BEFORE they can hear the arguments in debate at the AGM. Thus, all resolutions, including ours, fell victim to the Trust’s newly-introduced ‘quick vote’ box inviting members to support all NT’s preferences for candidates and resolutions in advance of the meeting. It inevitably allowed easy defeat of all members’ motions by a wide margin."

Of course this system is NOT new and many groups and companies use this method to vote for board members old and new....even Nationwide Building Society use this method for those who cannot make the journey to the AGM!

We say....This is an insult to the membership who actually researched the resolution, and the story there in, and who have drawn their own conclusions. Had SHA been allowed to show those "slides" I'm certain there would have been the usual rhetoric and miss information that comes out of everything they say!

They go on.....

"WHAT NEXT?  We await the Chancellor's autumn Statement on 17th November, which will reveal whether the inevitable cuts in public expenditure will drop the most expensive road schemes including the A303 at Stonehenge".

When will they wake up and realize they cannot take on the largest charity in the UK with 5.7 million members, and expect to get their own way!!!
