OK...don't fix the A303..... !

and this is just one incident of many how not fixing it, affects us here in Shrewton:

On Friday last, the writer of this blog sadly, had to attend a funeral in the village at St.Mary’s Church.   It was supposed to have started at 13.00.

On our way,  we find the High Street extremely busy in both directions... for a non event Friday i.e. not holiday weekend or summer.   Firstly, we couldn’t turn right into Furlong Way, to park the car – the opening was blocked with RAT RUN traffic that couldn't move back or forward….Obviously, no thought for emergency vehicles, hands up in disgust!
Secondly, when we walk down the stairs in the grave yard, there is some shouting going on in the road outside the church railings…The Rat Runners won't allow a bus to get through and one of our residents "politely" told the driver of the vehicle, how to find reverse gear!!!  Thirdly, the Vicar apologized to the church packed with mourners for the lateness in starting the funeral service, and explained this was due to queues on the A303 making people coming from afar, late in arrival and she wanted to get everyone in before commencing the service.  There were four other arrivals well into the service all saying they’d been held up not only on the A303 but also getting into the village!   This is just one instance where we here in Shrewton are inconvenienced by the traffic on the A303.  I find out later that there had been two RTCs one either side of Winterbourne Stoke.....over stretching our emergency services in this area yet again!

I rest my case!

Stoford had the traffic off the A303 Friday morning as they were diverting everything off at Deptford. Lorries that can’t get under the bridge at Wilton we’re trying to get up Stoford Hill despite it having a 7.5T limit. Trying to cross the A36 was a nightmare. I feel your pain!
