Please drive with care through our village of Shrewton.....

Community Speed Watch is completely supported by Wiltshire Police https://www.wiltshire-pcc.gov.uk/the-pcc-and-you/get-involved/community-speedwatch/  You may well see our teams out anywhere in the County of Wiltshire and most likely experience more than one group in a single day....so it's time to keep your speed down - or at least drive up to the limit.....NOT OVER!!!  Everyone gives up their time volunarily, to help their particular area become more safe.

Here in Shrewton - it's Rat Run time again and as the Team Leader for Community Speed Watch in our village, there's a few things you should know before using your sat nav to divert out of the queue on the A303 at Stonehenge and into our village....

The fact that something needs to be done about the queues on the A303 is a given!   The writer of this blog will not give up until the first spade is struck!   Even if the Project to fix the road will take the next 5 years following the decision to commence, at least we can look forward to some sort of peace and normality when it's complete.  Residents in Shrewton have needed something done about the over time increase in Rat Run traffic for 30 years, some now saying....."not in my lifetime"!!

To go back to Community Speed Watch (CSW) in Shrewton....I thought you may like to see a couple of "Returns" that following an hour session, our teams forward to me for sending to Wiltshire Police for action.  In both cases the VRN's (vehicle registration numbers) have been removed for GDPR compliance.   The Returns show the  speed, colour and type of vehicle, along with the time said vehicle passed through our village.   We would conduct 12 to 15 sessions during the period we have "the device".....it's not a camera and does not take pictures of anyone or any vehicle.

The first of these Returns was conducted at our Meadway site for one hour and traffic was measured in one direction on 08/08/2022.   So just a week ago.  On that occasion between 0830 and 0930 there were a total of 306 vehicles of which 35 were speeding and 2 of these were excess i.e. 45 mph or over.....we have a 30 mph limit all over our village!!!

The second Return was conducted on 15/08/2022 at our London Road site - again for one hour and in one direction at 0800 to 0900.  There were a total of 145 passing vehicles of which 24 were speeding and there were 4 excess speeders driving at over 45 mph: 48, 45, 49, and 47 respectively.

Every one of these drivers will receive a letter of some degree or even a visit from Her Majesty's finest if over 45 mph.
If you would like to get involved in CSW for your village, please use the link at the start of this post or if local and want to join our team, please contact me direct.
Sadly, and experienced by our team today, we do get the morons in our society, passing through giving us hand gestures usually telling us they're in 2nd gear or even 1st gear!!  Thankfully there are more thumbs up than down!
