Summer Solstice 2014 - best yet!

SUMMER SOLSTICE 2014 will go down in history as being one of the best ever!
Obviously, we have to thank Mother Nature for providing brilliant weather and the sun coming up from the east through a clear sky at 4.52.   Slowly making it's way through into the Stone Circle itself.....where, in fact I was with some friends who had never experienced it for themselves.   Actually, neither had I because the last time we went, it came up behind the cloud and was more like a damp squib.  This year was different tho'....

There were folks of all nationalities and apparently, summer solstice at Stonehenge has to be on everyone's bucket list before departing this life!!
We understand 36,000 people attended, and it appeared most or all were having a very good time with us making friends with people we'd never met before.   Only 25 arrests out of that number is down to the well organised event that it turned out to be...... and my personal congratulations are due to Ms Kate Davies General Manager for the world heritage site, who had regular meetings with Wiltshire Police, local Stakeholders, Highways Agency and others, to make it a night of safety, freedom within bounds and one to be remembered!!
My thanks also to Wiltshire Radio who gave STAG a good 5 minute slot and who have been supportive since its inception and our campaign to improve the A303 around the monument following the closure of the A344 to accommodate the visitor's centre.   You can "listen again" on: www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire - Graham Rogers 6am Saturday morning's programme.   Click listen again and go forward 1hr 34secs.
Here's just a little taster if you're considering coming in future years....

This is a post of thanks, and they are due to the nice very tall German who took this photo on my behalf because at 4' 11", the whole thing was rather over my head!!! >

Busking a plenty, with King Arthur and his Druids having their particular ceremonies:

People did have to eat, so it's inevitable there would be some of these.... Pizza for breakfast anyone?

To complete our montage - one taken outside the stone circle... All in all a wonderful experience!
