Oh dear!.......poor Liverpool

So we hear on the lunch time news that "World Heritage Status" has been removed from Liverpool - (the city) by UNESCO : "The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization".  Apparently, it's on the grounds of over redevelopment of Liverpool's beautiful Waterfront not to mention the artists impression of the soon to be built - new Everton Football Club.....shame on you Everton!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-57879475 and we also see the same story in the New York Times today. ."https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/21/world/europe/liverpool-unesco-world-heritage-status.html

All this does have a meaning for us as to whether we get relief from the queues on the A303 and whether it goes into a tunnel or not because the status for Stonehenge World Heritage Site was and remains under threat as I posted as far back as 30th October 2018 in a post titled "What's Next"....."Of course, the thorn in everyone's side who want something done to alleviate the traffic in our village of Shrewton, while the A303 remains unfit for purpose, is an outfit (charity) called Stonehenge Alliance: www.stonehengealliance.org.uk    They're worried that Stonehenge will lose it's UNESCO World Heritage status if the road is put into a tunnel or at least one that's too short in their eyes......So what if it does, as I said in a previous posting some years back, the city of Dresden in Germany, lost their status in June 2009 because they built a Waldschlosschenbrucke.....(large bridge to you and me)..... to alleviate traffic crossing the River Elbe and Dresden's tourism has NOT suffered as a result.  People from all over the world will continue to visit Dresden as they will Stonehenge whether it has status or not because the average tourist probably don't have a clue who or what UNESCO are and just want the Stonehenge experience."

And so.....back to Liverpool and to link their problem with ours.....   As we all know, the A303 presently, cuts right through the middle of the World Heritage Site and REMOVING it is not to "make space" for new build but is more to open up the site for all to enjoy in fauna and flora, improve the economy for the West Country and for us.....to reduce the continuing Rat Run through our village of Shrewton where we experience traffic numbers of 1100 vehicles per day in the summer on just one road where speed indicators are installed!!!    We have 3 other entries/exits to our village and during a Community Speed Watch session a week ago on the A360 within the 30mph limit, we measured

523 vehicles in ONE DIRECTION IN JUST ONE HOUR.....as you will appreciate....we didn't catch many speeders on that occasion!!!!!!
